The last week in November saw the return of the AWS re:Invent Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada and team members from GSI’s Cloud practice again participated in the conference. For those that aren’t familiar with AWS, AWS stands for Amazon Web Services, and the AWS re:Invent conference is a yearly gathering that brings together more than 50,000 attendees from the AWS community. Attendees include end customers, AWS partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) over 5 different venues.
As in years past, activities at the conference include the typical keynote sessions from AWS executive leadership, and breakout sessions covering topics such as DevOps, marketing strategies and Cloud industry trends just to name a few. AWS curriculum boot camps and even opportunities to earn AWS certifications via exams during the event itself are also available. The conference’s expo area is where the GSI team met with other AWS partners to see the exciting and innovative work that is being done in the world’s largest Cloud ecosystem.
The overarching message from this year’s conference seemed to be focused on serverless and containerized computing. Last year’s focus was largely on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), and although there is no less momentum in this area, serverless and containerized computing is allowing for a new level of flexibility and cost-effective Cloud computing.
